Greetings,

A while back I posted a couple of questions to Talk regarding common file naming conventions and the WorkStation’s default Project loading behavior.

First of all I wanted to thank those of you who responded. And I want to report that these suggestions have been incorporated into the currently available download of the product.

File naming conventions:

I created a Taskbuilder called the Variable Builder. To get this, in the Customer Center – go to the TaskBuilder download page.

Originally, I wanted to make the process of creating dynamic filenames easier – but realized that this can be used for more than just file names. The Variable Builder allows you to easily create “dynamic” variables – for example the script needs to open a spreadsheet but the spreadsheet’s naming convention is today’s date minus 2 days. Or I need to enter into a field yesterday’s date in a specific date format. The Variable Builder lets you create these using a GUI. It can even start setting up a Rules based script for you – or just display the generated commands and you copy them to the clipboard. I’ve used the Variable Builder several times now and found it really handy!

Default Project loading behavior

Several people suggested allowing configuration of the default project loading behavior. Here’s what we did:

There is an option under the File menu called Initial Project – This allows you to set the default behavior - the WorkStation can now either load the last opened project, a new project, or always load a specified project.

I’ve also added a bunch more scripts to the Script Center. The vast majority of the scripts come from you our customers, so PLEASE send them in (you can email them to me) - I’d love to have to spend time everyday posting scripts.

Happy Scripting!

Regards,

Thom
