Okay so here is what we do:

Step 1: You will need to create a new Guided SQL Query from within DBMS
for each dictionary you wish to get the data from. Via the guided sql
query you will have to select each field you want to export.

Step 2: Via DBMS there is a function/activity to download report to pc.
Perform the steps to do this. When you do this you will enter what your
delimiter will be.

Step 3: If desired, If you absolutely want or need for the delimiter to
be a tab then you open your file in an editor like Ultra Edit and
replace your delimiters with a tab but be VERY CAREFUL not to replace a
delimiter that actually might be apart of your fields value. It is my
experience that you use a delimiter that will absolutely not be in any
of the values in the fields such as a tilde ( ~ ) or a hat ( ^ ).

Step 4: You will use Boston to read that file and apply the fields to
your new system.

Subject: RE: [Talk] Transfering Dictionary information from GE
Centricity OR product to Meditech using BWS

        Greetings,

GE Centricity is a windows app - I've worked with it before.
It's for the most part pretty "vanilla".

I believe the suggestion below is the right one, do "something"
in GE that extracts the information - I do not have any knowledge
about GE's abilities here.

Once extracted, you'll need to make sure it "matches up" with
the Meditech screens. Meaning the data extracted can be keyed into
Meditech successfully. A script can make data format changes (date,
time) those sorts of things - or you can use Excel to format it ahead of
time.

Data entry into Meditech from a spreadsheet (or any other file
format) should not be difficult at all - and perhaps folks on the list
have dictionary update scripts already for what you're looking for.

        Regards,

        Thom

In my limited knowledge of Centricity I believe you will have to
export your dictionaries in to excel spreadsheets and them have meditech
import the data.

We are in the process of implementing Meditech Magic
5.6.2 ORM. We would like to move inventory, physician cards, etc... from
the current GE Centricity product to Meditech. Has anyone done this?
If so how hard was it? Did you run into any difficulties?
