The article's about Denver Public School District, who are finding a whole lot of their Chromebooks bought during pandemic are running out of life. The environmental and cost impacts are huge.

Do they actually "brick"?  Or just not get any more updates?  I have never heard of this before.  I've run all my Android phones past their best before date and they just keep on going.  It's usually the battery that does them in.  Why would Chromebooks be any different?  I suspect if this was true, it might get the government annoyed.
