Rick. The item in the system tray is a notification that you can reserve your copy of Windows 10 which will be released on July 29. If you reserve Windows 10, Microsoft will notify you so you can download it. Windows 10 can be installed at your convenience. As to whether or not if it is safe to download and install Windows 10, I don't feel that I'm qualified to answer that question. Windows 10 is still in beta and I'm not one of those who is brave enough to try public betas of Windows 10 or any other public previews of Microsoft products.
