When viewing the list of messages in a folder, start typing characters. after you stop, WLM will build a list of messages containing that string. Down arrow once for the first message in that temporary list. I think it's pretty slick. In this method, you don't have much control over which parts of a message will be searched, but I don't find this to be a problem. There may be other ways of searching, but I haven't used them in WLM.
