Mike,

OCR is optical character recognition. It scans an image of text and converts it to actual text that Window-Eyes can read.

Tom

Hi Martin,

For specific files you wish to process, you're best approach is to open the
files directly in the Virtual View window by choosing the third radio
button, called Source file.
As soon as you press Ok, you will notice that the browse for file dialog
opens, allowing you to select the file.

Rod

Subject: Re: Introducing Virtual View 5.0

hi and thanks for this great new - long awaited - feature!
I tried alt-print with a few pdf files opened in acrobat (newest
version) with very different results.

How are we supposed to use this to get the best results out of it?

When I open a pdf then turn off browse mode and press alt-print virtual
view starts the ocr.
In two out of three pdf files I got "no text found" But there is text, I
know it.
In the third file VV did find text but also scanned the menue and
sidebar of acrobat - so the text includes also "save pdf" "create pdf"
and everything else.

how can I only get the text of an image?
And what can I do to get the other files scanned as an external ocr
would do it?

Thanks for some hints!
best,
Martin

Virtual View 5.0 now supports exciting new features such as the ability to
OCR images from files or the screen, plus virtualizing various document
formats, including PDF files. Here are some other features:

* You can open an image in any format (jpg, bmp, png, tiff,
etc.).
* If you press Alt-Print Screen to capture the active window,
Virtual View will automatically OCR it for you.
* The Virtual View options dialog lets you control image
manipulation to increase OCR success.
* Supports UAC, allowing you to get contents (specifically
UIA) from windows that are elevated.

* Images inside PDF files are prepended with [BEGIN
IMAGE] and appended with [END IMAGE].
* You can choose several different kinds of file formats to
virtualize, including:

*                     Txt

*                     Html

*                     Xml

*                     Zip

* And if you have Office installed:

?  Docx

?  Xlsx

?  Pptx

Imagine a Word document filled with text boxes and word art. That
information will show up as plain text when passed through Virtual View.
Spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations are the same way. If you want to
quickly skim a PowerPoint presentation without opening PowerPoint, use
Virtual View.

With zip files, Virtual View can open the zip file and get the text of all
text files. At the very least, you can get a list of the files in the
archive.
