I think you missed my point. I know why Open Book is priced so High.
It is not because it is so much more Accurate when it comes to Scanning
the typical document. It is because Blind users of Open Book often
obtain Open Book because the State will fork out the money for it.

I think I paid around $160 three or four years ago for Omni-Page 18, and
this was for their Professional edition. It did so much more than what
I needed. I just wanted to copy the text from some Books, and get it
into a Text file of some kind.

Someone else just shared they could buy Omni-Page 18 for $25.

I know you are attempting to defend the $900 price of Open Book buy
pointing out the scanning software used by the Medical and Law
professions.

Again, I suspect these offerings might be over priced because here too,
the Medical and Legal professions tend to have a lot more money they
could pay for such software.

Since I know little about the software Lawyers and Medical Offices use,
I could not tell you whether or not this includes a very High Speed
Scanner that has a fantastic Document Feeder, as well as the Computer
and Monitor as well. $7000 is more than I can afford, and so is $900.

My point is that for a much lower price, the Blind user can set
themselves up, with a Good Scanning package, and will be able to scan
most anything they wish, for a whole lot less. Is Open Book any more
Accurate than Omni-Page, or some of the other available packages one can
buy off the shelf? I doubt it.

Open Book may be built with the Blind user in mind, which should make it
easy to use.

With the right Help, I would say the same could be said about any
Scanning Package that works with a Screen Reader would eventually be
usable to the person that is willing to take the time to learn its
features.

In the case of Omni-Page, and I started with version 6, and now have 18,
I have way too many features and Options, and frankly, hardly use all
that it has to offer.

Perhaps Open Book is like some of the Food Companies that charge more
for less? Soup Companies charge more for the Un-Salted soups than they
do for the Soups they add Salt.

<Slight laugh> Perhaps Open Book charges more for fewer features? yeah,
I am sure that is the reason.

Anyway, if you want to pay $900 for Open Book, I am not trying to stop
you from doing so. If you want to spend $7000, like the Lawyers and
Medical profession does, be my guest. Not trying to stop you, or
anyone else from spending their money in any way you wish.

For those of you that do not have the State buying Open Book, or
anything else for you, you folks might be interested in knowing there
are cheaper alternatives, a lot cheaper, that will work for you for the
typical scanning of documents and other printed materials.

cheers,
