I used Vipre for a while until I found out that it had some big problems. After hearing that is was not reliable, I removed it and ran Malwarebytes which found twenty some serious issues. Vipre had been telling me that everything was fine.
If you're still running XP, I recommend Bit Defender. I have always found Microsoft Security Essentials to be friendly and to work well with Vista and Windows 7 and I now use Windows Defender with Windows 10. I have had no virus problems, since I don't take chances and don't browse risky web sites.
