I'm no Microsoft fan. For those whose computers were updated to Windows 10 when they did not want it they had to confirm the process. And they had thirty days to revert back. Clicking on OK without reading what's on the screen is a common problem in the sighted world as well.

There's a difference between accessibility being part of the specification and it being implemented from day one. No business caters to a group that constitutes 1% of their customer base. Implementing accessibility takes time which delays the launch of products that are ready for the masses. And time is money. So no, we are not at the top of Microsoft's or any other developers priority list. If we lived in your blind utopia where everything had to be accessible for everyone, which would have to include all disabilities, the entire world economy would crash and technological advances would slow to a crawl.

There are long standing accessibility issues with every computing platform and always will be. And then there's the endless list of software that computer manufacturers put on their systems that cause myriad problems for screen reader users.

No one on this planet lives in a perfect world. We can work with what we have or spend all our time and energy complaining about every little annoyance, like the Cortana search box using Edge when a different key stroke will give us the same thing in whatever browser we want.

part of the specifications. Why is it always an after thought.

Tom, I'm sorry, but you just dont get it. My whole purpose in writing
to the list was to point out an example where they *are* most
definitely forcing you to use Edge. If you want to use Cortana and
find something on the web. Of course you don't have to use this
feature and no, I'm not having a coronary about it as you like to say,
but you are wrong. Microsoft has already done it. You can not change
this behavior. Hell, they were trying to upgrade peoples computer with
Win 10 a while ago whether they wanted it or not. Remember that?

So when you say that MS can't force you to use their browsers or
anything else, that's simply not true! They already have and will
probably do this kind of thing more in the future.

 Stephen,

I apologize for returning your attack. I should have turned the other
 cheek.

I'll ask you one very simple question. Can you give me one single real
world reason how lack of access to Edge today is impairing your
ability to
 work or use your computer?

I'll take your word that some apps can use only Edge. But in the real
world Windows apps are a joke. And yes, Microsoft can make Edge the
default for searching using their start menu in their operating system.
They have every right to do so. It does not hinder anyone in any way.

Microsoft will eventually make Edge accessible. They cannot force
you to
use Edge, which they are not doing now. That was settled in court many
years ago. If you're irate because you can't use an app, what can I
say?
This is the world of blindness wherein this is common regardless of the
 platform you're on.

 From Microsoft:
"Internet Explorer 11 will be supported for the life of Windows 7,
Windows
 8.1, and Windows 10."
 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/End-of-IE-support

It will be years before everyone is on Windows 10. And it's the only
place
 Edge is available.

Regarding your stream of personal insults? I'm a programmer for the
North
American division of a German fiber optic company as well as the town I
live in. This is why I'm on a computer all day. I have compassion for
those who are unemployed. It is very difficult for a blind person to
find
work in this world regardless of their qualifications. Life is not and
never will be fair to all.

I apologize for the initial statement of my opinion, but only to you. I
had no idea that such a simple message, prefaced in the way it was,
could
wreak such havoc. Please hit Delete whenever you see my name on a
message.
Or better yet, create a filter to dump me in the trash.

 Regards,
 Tom
