Matthew, Sometimes in Word and Excel 2013 one has to press the ALT key to bring up the ribbon and then again to dismiss the ribbon. There are times when you have to maximize the window before the ribbon can be brought up as well. This is very annoying but the above usually seems to resolve the problem.
