Hello List,

I am glad this list is still functioning so as I adjust to the potential slow demise of Window Eyes, I can stay in contact with folks. Hopefully this list continues as it is the easiest way to get help. Trying to connect with another mailing list would be a pain for me and there may be some that wouldn't be aware of the move until too late.

I think the slippery slide for W-e started when HIMS disconnected from GW after GW helped them get started in the US. I had gone to a 2-day intro training at GW in Fort Wane the year Booksense was coming out and the folks at GW were so excited. Next thing I knew, HIMS was separating.

On my internet search I learned of GW collaberating with Apple to make iTunes more accessible. Well, that isn't happening any more.

then GW and Microsoft were collaberating and W-E was available free for MS Office users. I was kinda hoping Microsoft would invite GW to become part of Microsoft's accesibility team resulting in W-e replacing Narrator. Nope.

I read the posts about the changes in W-e since Vocal eyes. change is unavoidable, but I am not liking the changes of late.

As for JFS, in 2008+- when I realized my vision wasn't going to work for reading, my rehab agency gave me MAGIC. When I got the blue screen of death, the FS tech person said I needed to change my registry. I knew better than to do it myself and didn't trust local rehab tech people. further research led me to GW Micro and Window Eyes. They were very helpful, and when I did get the death screen, they walked my husband and I through replacing my drivers. GW folks were wonderful with awesome tech support and answered many of my questions quickly and accurately. the other day when I called VFO, I had to wait a while on the phone only to get someone who had to text someone else to find the answer to even the simplest of questions. So, given the choice between NVDA which is free but uses email support and Jowls where you can talk to a human with questionable help, I will probably choose NVDA.

Thank you for your patience and support as I go through the changes withh the awesome Window Eyes. I sure hope it stays around, but I will prepare in case it doesn't.

Brenda
