Hi: The demo runs for 40 minutes from the time the computer does a full start-up.
With Windows 8 and later, when you tell Windows to shut down, it doesn’t really totally shut down the way it used to. When you do a shut down in Windows 8 and later, Windows logs you out of your account then goes into hibernation for what is called the kernel layer. When you turn your PC back on, Windows comes out of hibernation, and puts you at the log in screen or logs you in if you’re set to autologin. This makes startup faster, but, the JAWS demo doesn’t consider this a real reboot. So, the demo clock is still running, so to speak. To get a full 40 minutes out of the demo, you need to fully reboot the system. When you tell Windows to restart, it does close everything, and, shuts the whole thing down, then, reboots. This would affect the Window-Eyes demos as well, because they also required a full reboot to stop nagging about Window-Eyes being a demo. This kind of shut down is called a “hybrid” shut down. You can go into power settings, and disable fast startup, and, when you shut down Windows 8 or later, it really will shut down. But, you have to look for that option and explicitly set it. By default, you get the fast startup option.
