Hi David, The setting of key echo can be changed through repeated presses of the hot key Insert-2, and 2 is that found above the letter w, well, at least above the letters area of your keyboard. As you repeatedly press this hot key, you rotate through the various settings for key echo, and, the setting wraps around infinitely. When Window-Eyes is first installed, it is set as follows: Keyboard voice on with characters Now, I assume that when you say you set it to words, you simply changed it to the next setting, namely: Keyboard voice on with words I would like to point out, though, that, if you wish to hear words articulated after typing them, and if you also wish the individual keystrokes echoed when you press them, then, and this would be the best experience on the desktop as well, you should set it to: Keyboard voice on with characters and words If you also want numbers echoed as you type, then the next setting would be good, as well, namely: Keyboard voice on with characters, words and numbers Once you set it the way you like it, return to the Window-Eyes control panel to save your setting. Note also that the setting you choose may only be active for the current set file, and this depends on the setting of the Scope button within the Keyboard, Voice node. If you navigate to this node, and tab to that button, on new installations of Window-Eyes, it will be set to Global, and this is true of many settings of Window-Eyes. .It is best to leave it this way.
