I agree that we need to be able to show that 30 sign. It seems to me
that we _also_ need to be able to show 50 (or 52, or maybe even
52.12345) to users who've chosen to navigate in km. In the case of the
specific example, you'd need to offer that choice, since most of the
world drives cars with no mph on the speedo scale. So whatever
standard we adopt, we'll need to allow renderers to grok the numbers
well enough to do units conversion, and that's whether or not we
decide that it's valid for the DB to store string-with-unit.
