I noticed the same thing yesterday although I can't reproduce it now.
When I typed a character it was remaining highlighted so typing another 
character would replace it giving the appearance that the field was 
limited to 1 character.
Clicking with the mouse to force the cursor after the first character 
seems to solve it for me at the time.
