You need to convince him/her of the beauty/eligence of road signs and get
him/her to take lots(!!) of pictures of them. ;-) Maybe sponsor him/her
with a big pack of batteries.

I have a makefile which I use to generate the Crowsnest Pass GPS Map,
which I'll email off list.
