It is actually a wiki page, so you can remove it. Look at the JOSM
settings for the download locations, and then you can see the url to
go and edit.

Doh, seems I cannot read.
Using java 6 here on Ubuntu I have not problems with latest (945).
Can you please run java --version and send the result, that should
give some more info.
