The new Colorado and Oregon models seem to support some sort of raster
images natively, as evidenced by the Ordnance Survey maps recently released
(Garmin GB Discoverer) [1]. However, the format of those is not publicly
known.

If you want to use raster images, the new Delorme PN-40 (and the older,
slower PN-20) support raster nicely, and with a $100 add-on called XMap, you
can add your own georeferenced images to your GPS, so you could use
something like slippy map tiles. Caveat if you're looking to use Delorme
maps: The currently available maps and aerial imagery from Delorme seem to
cover only the US.
