If my memory is correct you first do a "createcoloralpha(r,g,b,a)" where r,g,b & a are 8 bits values but I don't remember if 0 is full transparent or full opaque. You then use that color as usual. You may have to first create a fully transparent color and use it to fill the entire image otherwise the resulting image ends up opaque.
