MapQuest is providing several address files that contain user-provided
latitude and longitude locations across the world. Our users provided
these exact locations to us so that they could be mapped correctly on
our MapQuest maps.
This is great to see! Our crowdsource participation would go up if
the tools were simple enough to use (single purpose, etc). There are
probably more addresses here than all manually gathered addresses in the
US in the last year.
A quick check shows that there are some duplicated addresses,
probably caused by excitement to get the address on the map quickly (I
reported it yesterday, why is it still not on the map??) For example, I
see:
3000 Highway 29 N
3000 Highway 29 N.
3000 Highway 29 North
3000 Hwy 29 N
3000 Hwy 29 N.
3000 Hwy 29 North
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but just wanted to note it to
anyone looking at processing the data.
