The Columbus/Visiontac V-900 will recognize a power-only USB cable (such as you would have on a car charger) and will automatically track when the car is running. It logs once per second onto a <=2GB micro-SD card, starting a new file every time it's turned on. The last one I bought went for $89 on Amazon.com. It has a few draw-backs, but when this one dies (somehow, they don't work very well after you run them through the1 wash), I'll immediately buy another one. In addition to automatically logging, it also has a pushbutton for taking a waypoint, a push-to-talk microphone for taking georeferenced audio notes, the battery lasts 12-14 hours, and it streams NMEA via bluetooth. I can't recommend it highly enough for mapping. -- --my blog is at http://blog.russnelson.com Crynwr supports open source software 521 Pleasant Valley Rd. | +1 315-600-8815 Potsdam, NY 13676-3213 | Sheepdog _______________________________________________ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
