How about something like:
o manually extract version 2 and 3 from the live API
o In JOSM, upload to the API for http://api06.dev.openstreetmap.org
(perhaps after changing some attributes so that you can see which is which)
o Browse using http://api06.dev.openstreetmap.org and turn the data
layer on to see the new tiles and the old versions that you've uploaded
to the dev API.
