Too generic symbols are just not clear. Some examples as a symbol ("pars pro toto") can be better instead and is used in multiple cases (look for example at fast food or playground icons). We have the same problem with hospital symbol. There's even an official generic symbol that we could use, called "red crystal" (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Red_Cross_and_Red_Crescent_Movement#The_Red_Crystal ) and I like it very much, but we still use red cross, because I think nobody would recognize it.
