yes Stephen I tried all four arrow keys it just switches from 1/2 and 2/2 after which talks just says c. I even switched talks to speak all punctuation in case that would help. I tried it in the text message editor, the email message editor and quick office with the same behaviour. I just now tried switching from word echo to word and letters echo but still no good. they are being displayed because when you press select while in the symbol list your selection is entered in to the text.

Did you try arrrowing down when in the Symbol screen? Sometime the most used Symbols aren't spoken but the rest of the screen is. The first line of the Symbol screen on 3rd Edition phones are the last 6 or 8 Symbols used. Then you have to arrow down to get the rest of them. I'm not saying it will work, I'm just asking if this is something you tried.

Now that I have updated and the symbol list is not spoken can I go back? or would Nuance be quick enough to help us? What do we do? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bernard Hemmings" <[email protected]>

As it works on my laptop I will use that. My desktop has 10 built in usb ports so they would be on a built in hub. My IBM think pad has only 2 usb ports unless I use the expander. As I updated 2 phones yesterday using the laptop with no problems I will use the laptop. I will ask the desktop pc supplier if there are any usb ports that are not on a hub as the updater warns about usb hubs. Oh and by the way you have to have the sim card present to update phones now. As I have a new spare e72 I updated it as well. I did not put the sim in and after a few seconds I heard a dialogue come up which said please insert sim card and the choices were try again or cancel.

Bernard,

When you performing such important operation, try not to use to many USB hub or connection. In fact, for me, I will usually remove all other USB cables connected and only leave the one for the phone running and connected.

As in the past I have had trouble updating phones with my desktop I used the laptop and all went perfectly. I tried with bluetooth first but the updater does not see the device when I cabled it updated perfectly. The software has a date of august 5 but was only released today. If I find any new features I'll let you know. What was interesting during the update the updater installs a temporary peace of hardware to keep the phone and pc connected. This install did not happen on the desktop. I'm thinking that as the desktop has 10 usb ports it probably has a usb hub which does not work properly with the updater. At least now I don't have to stress out now when the phone needs updating .
