incidentally the default talks key on this n95 is the edit key you talk
about.
i did find another way and that was when in a text message i can press the
hash key, the one to the right of the 0 repeatedly until it announces
dictionary lower case.
i did also find in the options of talks that i can change what key i want to
use for talks, but the one it is on is ok for me just now.
to answer your question about selling the nokia e7, the answer is yes i did.

A good thing to do Stephen is to put Talks training mode on to find the
Edit key. To put Talks training mode on, press the Talks key (default on
N95) as I recall, is Multi-Media key and then the zero which is on the
bottom row of numeric keypad, middle button. This is a toggle so do the
same to turn the training mode off.
