TANGO DOWNTOWN presents Ramiro Gigliotti Musicality Seminar for Tango Dancers Seminario de música para bailarines de tango
August 17-19 Albuquerque, New Mexico Lloyd Shaw Dance Center, 5506 Coal SE This seminar was designed for dancers of all levels who wish to enrich their dancing by developing their ability to interpret music with both freedom and precision. Topics to be covered include: the rhythmic, harmonic and melodic structures of tango, milonga and vals cruzada and their application to the dance; a study of the most important tango orchestras focusing on their musical characteristics and history; a musical investigation of ornaments and embellishments. Although important theoretical information will be covered in the seminar, this is a practical workshop come prepared to dance the whole time! Ramiro Gigliotti has studied music at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory of Music and the Argentine Musicians Syndicate in addition to performing with the rock group La Piel de la Calle. He first studied with Juan Carlos Copes, then with Pupi Castello and Jose Brahmecha (Turco Jose). Since 1997 he has been a member of the Graciela Gonzalez Group, a collective devoted to the deepening and enriching of tango education and performance. Last year he taught his Seminar in Musicality to rave reviews throughout the U.S., Canada, and Italy. This past May he was guest instructor for Bridge to the Tango¹s Advanced Workshop in Buenos Aires. Ramiro also teaches regularly at La Galeria, Torcuato Tasso, Niño Bien and Parakultural (Salon Canning). WORKSHOP SCHEDULE: Fri 8/17, 7-9pm - The Rhythmic Structure of Tango Sat 8/18, 2:30-4:30pm - The Rhythmic Structure of Milonga and Vals Sun 8/19, 12-2pm - Dancing with the Harmony and Melody Sun 8/19, 2:30-4:30pm - The Different Orchestras & Adornos for Each. Friday Night Milonga 9-11pm at Lloyd Shaw, presented by Tango Downtown. $5 or free w/ full weekend registration. Saturday Night Milonga 7-10:30pm at Page One Cafe, sponsored by the Tango Club of Albuquerque. No cover charge. FEES: $70 for the weekend (four two-hour classes, plus the Friday Night Milonga) or $20 per class. Dancers are encouraged to sign-up for the full weekend. Classes may be appreciated separately, but were designed as a comprehensive eight-hour course.
