Nestor Ray, called El Maestro de las Estrellas ( the teacher of the
stars because he taught Robert Duvall and many other Hollywood
celebrities how to dance tango), will be in Sacramento with his wife
and dance partner Patricia Ray for one weekend only, August 11-12. If
you didn t get the chance to study with them when they were here last
year, don t let this opportunity pass you by again. They are
delightful people, fantastic dancers, and excellent teachers. Nestor
is also one of the few surviving milongueros who can capture the
flavor of vintage Canyengue style, and if there is enough interest, we
will try to schedule a Canyengue workshop as well.
ON SATURDAY, AUG. 11, 12:00 noon - 1:30 + PRACTICA, 1:30-2:00
TANGO FOR DANCING IN THE MILONGAS Close embrace rhythmic dance
popular in the milongas of Buenos Aires. Nestor & Patricia will work
on technique for leaders and followers, giros, enrosques, and sacadas
with an emphasis on rhythm, plus various patterns suitable for this
style.
SATURDAY, AUG. 11, 2:00 to 3:30 + PRACTICA, 3:30-4:00.
MILONGA WITH TRASPIE The most popular form of milonga in the dance
halls of Buenos Aries today. Add a little spice to your milonga with
traspie (triple steps added to the basic dance).
PLUS! Nestor & Patricia will attend our milonga (dance) on the night
of Saturday, Aug. 11, and will charm us with a performance of their
wonderful style. Don t miss it!!!
SUNDAY, AUG. 12, 1:00-2:30 + PRACTICA, 2:30-3:00.
VALS Using techniques of the close embrace taught in earlier
sessions, Nestor & Patricia will teach patterns and rhythms especially
for Vals (waltz).
Preregistered cost is $30 for each 2-hour workshop or $75 for all
three. At the door, the cost is $35 each or all three for $90.
Nestor & Patricia are available for private lessons throughout the
weekend for $85 an hour; call Donna at (916) 443-7008 to register.
All workshops and private lessons will be held at Tango by the River,
128 J Street, in Old Sacramento.
