We are pleased to announce a surprise, last-minute visit by Gloria and Eduardo Arquimbau to Los Angeles this week. They will teach a special class on Friday, September 7, from 8 p.m. to 9:30 at Salon Recuerdo at the Hollywood Dance Center, 817 N. Highland Ave., 1-1/2 blocks north of Melrose. The milonga will follow, with the greatest music from the Golden Age of Tango, starting at 9:30 p.m. till 1 a.m. Price for the class only is $15 per person. Price for the milonga only is $10 per person. Special price for class and milonga is $20 per person. Milonga prices include refreshments.
Gloria and Eduardo really need no introduction, but just to remind you, they are one of the legendary couples in tango history. They have been performing for nearly 40 years, and have starred in "Tango Argentino," the original and original revival companies of "Forever Tango," and other shows too numerous to list here. They are great showmen and never fail to delight audiences. BUT Eduardo is also one of the great milongueros of his generation--the guys who grew up dancing in the milongas in the early-mid 1950s. He is one of the teachers most responsible for the worldwide popularity of "club" style tango (or milonguero style, confiteria style, close embrace, apilado--whatever your preferred term is). Eduardo has taught this style, which is once again the predominant style in today's crowded milongas of Buenos Aires, all over the world. The style is very rhythmic, very close and VERY FUN. (And ladies--if you get the chance to dance with Eduardo you can then die a happy woman. It is heaven!) Gloria and Eduardo just taught at the Labor Day Tango Getaway in Reno and were a huge hit. They don't get here often (the last time was 1996) so don't miss them. (I'll bet we can talk them into a little exhibition before the night is over!) They'll be around for most of the week and will be happy to teach privates in any style, including canyengue, salon, milonga, waltz and performance tango, so if you're interested e-mail me or call me at (323) 650-0509. We will keep you informed of any other group classes planned, but we hope to see you Friday night. Thanks!
