Dear Tango Devotees, We invite you all to join us for a very special tango celebration this November in Colorado, so mark your calendar and book your flight to Denver!!! Dance of the Heart (aka DOTH) of Boulder, Colorado (www.danceoftheheart.com) is very proud and excited to announce TOMAS HOWLIN's return to our community for a workshop series from November 8-17, 2002. In collaboration with Pat Patton, Dance of the Heart (DOTH) combines workshops, parties, dance demos and milongas in a ten-day tango celebration in the Denver/Boulder metro area of Colorado featuring guest artist TOMAS HOWLIN!
Tomas inspires the traditional esthetic that characterizes this dance, yet brings a fresh fluidity and grace that has established him as a first-class master tango teacher and performer the world over. Equally at ease on the social dance floor, on stage, or on a movie set (for his latest work, see the current Jackie Chan release, "The Tuxedo"!), Tomas s tango experience is grounded in a thorough awareness of all aspects of the dance. His teachers, mentors and performing partners include Graciela Gonzales, Luciana Valle, Florencia Taccetti, Silvana Grill and his current partner, Chantal Dauphinais of Montreal. Among the first to insist that Colorado dancers master the close embrace, Tomas remains on the forefront of tango exploration. His annual visits have always brought opportunities to broaden our tango horizons in new ways. Tomas and Dance of the Heart have prepared a provocative series of workshops focusing on vals, the Nuevo Tango approach, "Tango con Traspie" and the possibilities of "authentic improvisation." With his characteristic warmth, intelligence and humor, Tomas offers us all a fun and insightful journey of discovery to the secrets of a smooth, fluid and memorable tango. Ever the innovator, on this trip, Tomas will also teach La Rueda de Milonga. The Rueda de Milonga, inspired by a Cuban group dance, involves a playful "changing-partners" dance game set to milonga music. Challenging and delightful for the participants, it also creates a joyful spectacle for onlookers. A series of three workshop classes in La Rueda will culminate in a demonstration given by class participants at the DOTH milonga on Saturday night, November 16! In addition to the special events for this workshop series, out-of-town attendees can also partake of the usual round of Colorado front range tango events: the Friday night Mercury Milongas sponsored by the Mercury Cafe in Denver, the Tuesday night Tango Colorado practicas at the magnificent Denver Turnverein, the Wednesday night milongas in Colorado Springs, the Thursday night Tango Colorado practicas at the Pearl Street Studio in Boulder and the Dance of the Heart bi-monthly milongas on Saturday evenings in Boulder. For out-of-towners, there are some opportunities to stay with local tango dancers during your visit; contact us if you are interested.
