YULETIDE TANGO IN TAOS, NEW MEXICO
DECEMBER 13-16, 2002
Ancestors of the Taos Indians lived in the Taos Valley
long before Columbus discovered America and hundreds
of years before Europe emerged from the Dark Ages. At
7,000 feet, the mountains and pueblo structures
appeared much as they do today when the first Spanish
explorers arrived in Northern New Mexico in 1540 and
believed that the Pueblo was one of the fabled golden
cities of Cibola. Now an artist enclave, Taos' San
Geronimo Lodge will host a weekend of tango. While
Taos artisans paint their Pueblo, we ll be painting
the dance floor. Daily classes, milongas, and
entertainment provide the structure of your visit; the
magic of the mountains inspires you to spend some time
skiing, absorbing local artist color, or traveling to
the past by visiting the centuries-old Pueblo. Listen
to storyteller Roberta Courtney s monologues and
stories from Taos history, and musician Dan Ingroff,
who plays many different ethnic instruments and
displays them all.
