>>Tango from Argentina and the latest News<< Pianist Claudio Mendez is bringing his music from Buenos Aires, created under the influence of Argentine styles of Tango, Jazz, Folk and Rock, and blended to his classical music training. In his first visit to the Northwest Mr Mendez joins forces with Argentine Seattle based tango flutist Mirta Wymerszberg and La Luciernaga Tango-trio for a repertoire of Traditional and Nuevo Tango, among them some original works from Claudio Mendez. Mr Mendez will also hold an informal talk about current social an political events in Argentina.

As many musicians of his generation, he came under the influence of popular music blending it to his classical music training. During the 80's he founded the new tango group "Nuevos Aires". The aesthetics of "Nuevos Aires", enrolled in the new tango stream, attracted Astor Piazzolla's attention. In recognition to quality, Piazzolla gave him one of his new compositions. With "Nuevos Aires", Claudio made important performances and three records. In 1999 Claudio recorded the solo piano CD: "Piano, piano..." that contains his own compositions and versions of classical tangos. He has also played and recorded with several popular and tango singers like: Jose Angel Trelles, Adriana Varela, Emilio del Guercio, Marcelo Balsells, "Opus Cuatro" and Nilda Fernandez amongst others. In November 2000 he recorded "Tangos, waltzes and milongas", a new CD with the vocal quartet "OPUS CUATRO". This CD won the "CARLOS GARDEL AWARD 2001n as "BEST TANGO GROUP. 2001" (It's the most important award for the argentine music) He will go to USA and UK in November-December and play tango and new tango and jazz standards __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
