TANGO FIESTA: SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, MEXICO, OCTOBER 1 THRU 5, 2003
(with optional added time Sept. 27 till Oct. 1)

EL INDIO and MARIANA will be two of our TEACHERS! There will also be two
more teachers, to be decided by June, 2003.
More about El Indio and Mariana can be found on www.beyondtango.com
San Miguel is popular for rich culture, sights, shopping, and also for being
the town in Mexico most famous for having more fiestas than any other in the
country. Perhaps because it is the “birthplace” of Mexico’s Independence…
quien sabe? And so now, SAN MIGUEL will have it’s first INTERNATIONAL “TANGO
FIESTA”.

We (El Indio, Mariana, and Christina) will be returning to San Miguel direct
from our FRANCE trip, and will be partying with the following fiestas: the
alborada a fiesta on Sept. 28, beginning at 4:00AM with skyfulls of blazing
fireworks, castillos, (towers of fireworks)and very noisy, and then the
parade celebrating Saints: Michael, and Rafael on Sept. 29. All these fiestas
commence Sept. 15th, with the celebration of Mexican Independence Day. Too
many fiestas, too little time... You will need to arrange with us if you wish
to arrive earlier than Oct. 1.
San Miguel is in central Mexico, nearest to Leon, but you may also fly
into Mexico City. There is first class bus transportation from each of these
cities to San Miguel. It is a mountain artist’s colony, at 6,000+ feet,
turquoise skies, and in October, fields of wildflowers and excellent weather.
San Miguel is so beautiful, with exquisite colonial architecture, churches,
fabulous shopping, two art schools, nearby hot springs, cultural events ;
that many foreigners have moved here. The film industry has chosen
San Miguel for several films, and photographers revel in the scenery and
Mexican color.
We will have a live tango orchestra, several tango classes and special
workshops, tour opportunities, a dance at a nearby old mining “ghost town”,
ranch party, picnic.
This Festival will be offered by the San Miguel Community, and has not yet be
planned in it’s entirety. More details will follow.
