Hola Tangueros:
Only ten more days to get the Early Bird prices for TANGO FIREWORKS 2003!
After February 28, the regular registration prices will apply. This nine-day
Southern California festival has quickly joined the ranks of the world's
best tango events. This year's festival, held June 27-July 5 in Long Beach,
California, is going to be even greater than the last two. First, it will
feature the long-awaited U.S. debut of the innovative teacher GUSTAVO
NAVEIRA & GISELLE ANNE (yes, they are CONFIRMED!!!) For those of you who
are not familiar with Gustavo, he is the real father of "nuevo tango" and
teacher of Fabian Salas, Chicho Frumboli,
Cecilia Gonzales, Mauricio Castro, Metin Yazir and many other young
tangueros. He does not only teach nuevo. He also teaches traditional tango,
milonga and waltz. What makes him so special is his innovative approach to
breaking everything down, regardless of the style he is teaching. He speaks
fluent English. He and Giselle have a huge following all over Europe, as
well as a large following here in the States. Since this is their first time
in the US (people have been trying to get him here for years, but they've
never succeeded), we expect a very large attendance. Gustavo and Giselle
require that their classes be limited to only 40 people--20 leaders and 20
followers. So those registering early will have the best chance of getting
into their classes. Also joining the Tango Fireworks faculty for the first
time are the beloved and legendary GLORIA & EDUARDO ARQUIMBAU,
and returning will be CARLOS COPELLO & ALICIA MONTI, MILENA PLEBS & EZEQUIEL
FARFARO, JULIO BALMACEDA & CORINA DE LA ROSA and AURORA LUBIZ & JORGE FIRPO.
This super line-up represents a wide spectrum of tango styles--something for
every taste! And in addition to being great performers and social dancers,
THEY ARE ALL GREAT TEACHERS. At the end of the week you'll feel assured that
your money was well spent. And of course, we will welcome back the
incomparable tango orchestra COLOR TANGO for two nights of fabulous LIVE
MUSIC. They will be playing their wonderful Pugliese-style repertoire as
well as their NEW D'Arienzo selections from their newest CD. Plus, we'll
welcome back three of the United States' best tango deejays--Robin Thomas of
New York, Robert Hauk of Portland and Dan Boccia of Anchorage. Their music
was highly praised by all our instructors last year, all of whom remarked
that it was just like being in a Buenos Aires milonga. The 2003 event will
be moving to a larger venue, the Long Beach Hilton Hotel. Special Tango
Fireworks group room rate is $129 per night, single or double. The hotel
boasts a 9,500 sq. foot ballroom (2,000 sq. feet more than we've had in the
past) and is located just two blocks from the Long Beach Marina, the
historic Queen Mary cruise ship, the new Aquarium of the Pacific, the Museum
of Latin American Art and Pine Street's new, hip restaurant and club
district. This year we'll be offering TWO weekend-only packages, June 27-29
and July 3-5, as well as the entire event. The entire week includes your
choice of 26 classes (out of a total of 104), 7 warm-up classes, 9
practicas, 9 milongas and the closing night dinner and show by the maestros.
Early-Bird Registration prices (good through February 28) are $299 for
Weekend One, $449 for Weekend Two and $599 for the entire event. After
February 28 the prices will be: $329/489/699, respectively. For all the
information, go to www.apurotango.com and click on Tango Fireworks.
