Dear List,
I had no idea that this would start filling so fast, but it is! Please
register right away. I just returned from 2 months in the USA, and everywhere I
went, people wanted to get groups together to come down. There is pleanty of
hotel
space, but not as much room in the rooms available for classes, so if you
want to come for classes, make sure you plan well ahead of time.
Tangueramente,
Christina Johnson

TANGO     FIESTA
OCTOBER    1   THRU   5   2003
SAN   MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, MEXICO
San Miguel is the town in Mexico famous for having more fiestas than
any other in the country. Perhaps because it is the “birthplace” of Mexicos
Independence…quien sabe? Now it has been reviewed and photographed by travel,
food, art, and photography magazines. Jazz, film, and music festivals happen
regularly, and the film industry has found a new spot for movie making.

EL INDIO and MARIANA, and FABIAN SALAS   and CAROLINA DEL RIVERO will be our
EXTRAORDINARY teachers.
About the teachers: El Indio is like an explosion of fire and beauty. His
dancing is the highest expression of masculine beauty and movemnet; his
teaching
is through his body and clear direction. Mariana is precise, patient,
delightful with movement reminiscent of the ladies from the early 20th century.
They
both are folkdancers, and lovers of milonga. Fabian and Carolina are wizards of
smooth, contemporary tango. Their style of teaching is impeccable, as they
teach clearly and personally, so that each students' way of learning is
satisfied. They are always new and fresh, finding new patterns and translations
of
traditional movement.

In san Miguel there will be partying with the following fiestas: the
alborada fiesta on
Sept. 28, beginning at 4:00AM with skyfulls of blazing fireworks, and
castillos, (towers of fireworks) Very noisy and happy! Then the parade
celebrating
Saints: Michael, and Rafael is ongoing   Sept. 29. All these fiestas commence
Sept. 15th, with the celebration of Mexican Independence Day. Too many fiestas,
too little time...
San Miguel de Allende is in central Mexico, nearest to Leon, but you
may also fly into Mexico City. There is very comfortable first class bus
transportation from each of these cities to San Miguel. In both cities we will
arrange for you to be met with an agency to get you where you need to go.

San Miguel is a mountain artist’s colony, at   5,500+ feet,   with turquoise
skies, and in October, fields of wildflowers and excellent weather. There is
lots to see and do: several hot springs , horseback riding, hiking, and
gorgeous restaurants. The shopping opportunities abound, and there are many art
galleries and night spots with great music.
The town itself is a protected national monument, with narrow cobblestone
streets, buildings painted with siena, scarlet, purple, and tropical flowers
cascading over the high walls. The beautiful architecture includes churches,
homes, and municipal buildings. We are planning one of the milongas in the
nearby
ghost town of Pozos at a lovely hotel/restaurant. This spot is
extraordinary for photos. The ruins in and outside of town are graceful
remains of   the   haciendas of wealthy mining families who once lived there.

Registration price until   JUNE   2, 2003: The cost will be $240 for the
entire week of classes and   three milongas. The cost for a couple will be
$420. Included is a welcome cocktail party, a “callejonada” where we will
dance the streets downtown following troubadors in medieval costume, singing
Mexican ballads and folksongs, drinking tequila.   This package will get you
into the Orchestra/show for a discounted price of about $12 USD.
Discounts are also available for a group of five that includes at least two
men. Hotels and B&B's will cost about $25 a day to $100. (with breakfast, and
at one place, it will also include lunch.) Your lodging needs to be paid
SEPARATELY, and ETV can book it for you for a fee of $25.
NOT INCLUDED in the price are special workshops, trips, hot springs, group
dinners, ranch parties, orchestra/show and other activities to choose that
will each have their separate prices beginning at about $15.
YOUR DEPOSIT OF $100 is due June 2, thank you. This rate is until Aug. 20th.
