Last Saturday I had dinner with some friends at
Chiquilin Tango (Montevideo 310, reservations:
6320-5342), the dinner and tango show offspring of
Chiquilin , just across the street. Chiquilin has
been for the last 77 years a can't miss restaurant
in Buenos Aires for his excellent food and great
service.

The very professional cast consisted of a tango trio,
two singers, two dance couples, and the grand finale
included a demonstration of the transition between
Uruguayan candombe, played by a real Uruguayan
tamborilero , and the milonga and/or tango candombes
as we dance them today. Another interesting feature of
the show was a sampler of the main tango orchestras
and their distinctive styles by the trio, which new
dancers that still can t tell the different orchestras
apart will find useful.

As for the food, there were two menus, both with
several options, priced at $90 and $70 (that is
Argentine pesos). Both menus start with a glass of
champagne, followed by appetizers, wine, entree,
dessert and tea/coffee and petit fours. Both food and
service were vintage Chiquilin: excellent.

IMHO a great way to start a tango evening in beautiful
Buenos Aires.
