ABOUT MONICA PAZ

Monica Paz is a native (“Portena”) of Buenos Aires and is a recognized
and respected teacher and performer in the tango community in her home
town. She graduated as a tango instructor in Dance and History from
the Centro Educativo del Tango (Central Tango School) in Buenos Aires.
Among her tango teachers she has fond memories of Carlos Gavito.

Monica began to learn and dance salon tango when she was in her
twenties and discovered milonguero style a few years later. Prior to
commencing on a thriving and successful career as a teacher and
performer of tango in her home country and abroad, she had several
important professional experiences. In the late 1990's and early
2000's she was a member of the dance company of the Día Nacional del
Tango [“National Tango Day] and then performed for two years at the
Cafe Tortoni on Avenue de Mayo, gaining acclaim and recognition in Una
Arrabalera de Hoy at this famous Buenos Aires tango landmark. In 2001
she and her dance partner won the first Campeonato Metropolitano de
Tango [“Buenos Aires Tango Championship”], and in March of 2002 they
represented Argentina in the first Tango Salon Championship, held in
Buenos Aires.

In the subsequent years Monica has established herself as one of
Buenos Aires’ leading teachers and exponents of the milonguero style
of tango, and teaches a wide range of classes and workshops for both
Argentinos and foreign visitors of all ages in her studio. By
invitation her students have performed in tango shows presented by the
Argentine National Library, while two of her younger students have
performed at the invitation of the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

In 2008 and 2009 Monica brought her style of teaching and passion for
milonguero to the United States and Europe, offering classes and
workshops, and a number of tango performances, on the U.S. East Coast,
and in Belgium and the Netherlands.
