The Philadelphia Argentine Tango School (http://philadelphiatangoschool.com) is pleased to announce a seminar on Choreographic Composition taught by Damian Lobato, Andres Amarilla & Meredith Klein.
The seminar will look at ways in which we develop criteria for identifying and creating musically, compositionally, and aesthetically-convincing sequences in tango. Students will create and refine their own sequences with continuous input from the three instructors, and benefit from each instructor's viewpoint on matters of functionality, aesthetics and musicality. The ultimate goal of this endeavor, of course, is for students to develop the ability to create successful sequences "on-the-fly" in improvisation, while responding to the specific requirements of the dance floor, music and the partner with whom they're dancing. We will not be changing partners in this seminar. Students should come with a partner and plan to work with that partner for the entire class. The seminar is geared for intermediate- and advanced-level students, and students will work within the confines of steps and sequences with which they're already comfortable. The purpose of the seminar is not to teach new steps, but for students to maximize their creativity with the resources currently at their disposal. Please email meredithkl...@gmail.com to register or with questions. The seminar is already half-full so please consider registering soon if you're interested in attending. This seminar will take place over two sessions. Students may register for either session or both. Saturday, July 17: 5-7 pm Saturday, July 31: 5-7 pm (The July 31 seminar will be followed by an all-levels class taught by Diego Di Falco & Carolina Zokalski from 8-9:15 pm and a milonga until 3 am with a performance by Diego & Carolina. See http://philadelphiatangoschool.com for more details.) Location: 2030 Frankford Ave Cost: $35 per session ($25 full-time students with ID) or $60 for both sessions ($40 f/t students) if paid in advance.
