I would agree that an 8-count Basic, commencing with a back step and ending with a Resolution is not a good place to start learning Tango and is a figure that, probably, should never be danced, IMHO.
The 8 count Basic that I prefer is LF side, walk to the cross and then forward walk to a close on 8. The previous example quoted, while removing the back step on count 1, then adds in 2 back steps on counts 5 an 6, doesn't progress down the floor and, IMHO, is even worse than the 8CBWDBS.
