Mario,

The reason other people have advised you against learning from videos has
nothing whatsoever to do with losing students. That is an erroneous
assumption. The percentage of students "lost" to videos, if any at all, is so
small, it's ridiculous. All dancers and teachers will tell you not to learn
this way, no matter what dance they do. People who are telling you this don't
have any agenda, they are just speaking from experience. It also has nothing
to do with the difference between stage or social tango. You have to have
feedback from another person when learning, and continuing to evolve in, a
social dance. For what it's worth, the worst dancers I ever met, after dancing
and teaching for 14 years, without exception, especially in tango, learned from
videos. If you want to assess how well you learned from the videos ask your
partners and the dancers around you, not yourself.

Cheers,
Charles
