I'm also guilty - for the same reason. There are 2 rules in maintaining 
a ronda. One is not to overtake but the second, IMO more important, 
rule is to move forward when space becomes available. Breaking the 
second rule inevitably results in the first rule being broken.

Nothing annoys me more than to see a gap of 5+m ahead of the
couple in front of me who, as you say, stay rooted in place. Every 
other dancer on the floor has less space to dance due to such
inconsidertate behaviour.
