Hi all -
It seems since Tapestry 4.0 has gone final it doesn't stop to buzz
around - also the user's list is now full of
i-am-new-to-tapestry,-how-do-i-load-components-on-the-fly questions.
I must say the much noise around the release of 4.0 final amazes me - it
was quite (very) stable for quite a long time now, and I can't see the
big jump, but I guess that is what an official release brings.
So - well done all and congrat. !
Now I have some small or not so small wishes for 4.1 I would like to share:
1. Make the standard validation messages somehow more configurable and
extensible.
AFAIK (and please correct me if I'm wrong) at the moment you can only
override the properties files in the valid package (by creating your own
in the classpath) in order to override the validation messages. I
consider this a hack.
Further, if one configures a new validator/translator, one must define
her own Localized ResourceBundle, which is not really nice -
I Guess a configuration point would do the work...
2. Security: being no security expert I don't really know all the
libraries out there to plug into to make a web application secure. There
is the standard Servlet API security, which does not work with Tapestry
and I would find it great if tapestry had some sort of an abstract
security implementation to plug outer libraries into and make security
constraints not dependant on implementing PageValidate.
3. From what I heard of the plans for 4.1 until now the unit testing is
the one that makes me most glad - it would be great if it could already
be there as 4.0.5, so one doesn't have to wait for it 6-8 month, and to
use it soon one doesn't have to go alpha...
4. thats a really small one: add a configuration point for mime types
supported by the asset service, instead of the static map. One could
also use the javax.activation., if present.
(Now this mail sits already a few days in my drafts and nothing new came
to mind - probably it will when I hit the "send"...)
Cheers,
Ron
