I do that. (I do set client side validation on) I still don't get the
client side popup - when I type in alphabets into a text box validated by
numberValidator.
It doesn't work with the sample applications either!
Sometimes, the client side validations don't work AT ALL. - The java script
is not generated at all. This happens for the work bench applications too.
I haven't figured out when this happens, though!

Client-side validation is still pretty new in Tapestry
and it causes some problems here and there, so by
default it is off.
You must set the clientScriptingEnabled property of the
validator to true.
Please see the Workbench for examples.
