The service implementation is a cover for the singleton. Imagine:

private static SomeServiceSingleton instance;
private SomeServiceSingleton(){}
public static synchronized SomeServiceSingleton Instance() {
if (instance == null) {
instance = new SomeServiceSingleton();
}
return instance;
}
public void doSomething() {
// do it.
}
}
