Hi,

I've been thinking about better ways of getting user feedback about
what features they would like to see in future versions of Task Coach.
I think it's safe to say that the 'donation-driven development'
concept is not working out very well. There are several reasons I
guess:
1. some of the requested features with donations offered are quite big
(calendar view for example),
2. it's unclear whether some of these features would appeal to a lot
of users (e.g. column reordering) in addition to the person offering
the donation,
3. I like to scratch my own itches :-/

I guess if we had a tool that would help with 2, showing how many
people would like to see a specific feature, it would also motivate
me more to work on that specific feature.

So, I noticed that stackoverflow.com uses uservoice.com for collecting
feedback. Uservoice.com allows people to vote for ideas and it is free
for open source projects, so I created an account to play with it. See
http://taskcoach.uservoice.com.

Sourceforge also offers something similar, called IdeaTorrent. Ubuntu
is using it, see http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com.

Does anybody have experience with these tools? Would one of these be a
good tool for us? If so, which one? Of not, why not?

Of course, migrating existing feature requests will be an issue.
Alternatively, we could also close them all and let people create them
again. Not very friendly, but it would be a good weeding exercise. See

Thanks, Frank
