Guest Editors: Ian Taylor Cardiff University, UK and Johan Montagnat

Scientific workflows provide a rigorous mechanism for coordinating
large-scale scientific experiments that typically encompass complex and
data-intensive operations. Since workflows manage large quantities of
jobs or services that are executed on different parallel and distributed
computing infrastructures and often involve collaborations spanning
different disciplines, workflows represent an interesting and novel
cross fertilization of diverse research interests. This special edition
of the Journal of Grid Computing on Scientific Workflows will provide a
wide scope to cover papers covering the entire lifecycle of workflows
including the development, execution, provenance, sharing and reuse.
Topics include, but are not limited to:

   - Data Intensive Workflows.
   - Data-driven workflow processing.
   - Workflow composition, tools and languages.
   - Workflow execution in distributed environments.
   - Workflows on the cloud.
   - Exascale computing with workflows.
   - Workflow refinement tools that can manage the workflow mapping process.
   - Workflow fault-tolerance and recovery techniques.
   - Workflow user environments, including portals.
   - Workflow applications and their requirements.
   - Adaptive workflows.
   - Workflow monitoring.
   - Workflow optimizations.
   - Performance analysis of workflows
   - Workflow debugging.
   - Workflow provenance.
   - Interactive workflows.
   - Workflow interoperability.
   - Mashups and workflows.

Cloud computing makes use of virtualization - but cloud computing
also focuses on allowing computing to be delivered as a service.
