This is a feature of the PC BIOS. If you hold the Alt-key while
typing digits on the numeric pad, you can enter ASCII character
codes to produce any character from the keyboard. In this case,
<Alt+0><Alt+1><Alt+2><Alt+8> will produce a ¤.
