After extensive testing I can confirm the following: If while you're editing a message an auto mailcheck takes place, the message you're editing will just sit in the outbox and will not be sent. If you send the message before an autocheck happens the message will be properly sent.
This is completely reproducible without fail for me. This is using MAPI protocol only. I've not noticed this with any other setting.
