I'm guessing that 'Abort' or 'Delete Task' in the message status dialog
(is that still used?) don't do anything in these cases. They don't for
me.

Sorry to see it's still in version 3.x. I'm still on a relatively
ancient version, where I see this routinely.

What sort of connection do you have to the mailserver? And what is it? I
get problems connecting to a mailserver that's literally down the hall,
running on a Solaris server of some sort. It's running Qpopper (version
4.0.2), apparently.
