Thanks very much for your valid suggestion Oleg, and yes, I could
easily do as you suggest - and have done so in the past btw. In many
cases such a method would prove, and has proved, to be more than
adequate for my basic needs. However, in many other cases such a
method would simply be impractical.

The problems that many people are having seem to be centered around
knowing what to with, or rather how to manage the increasing volume of
information and resources being received and necessarily accumulated
from the Internet. With such information, there is obviously a need to
transform that collected multifariousness content into resources that
are easily accessible in a preferred format. Why change 10 perfectly
adequate html pages with working java and javascript code examples
into one text based document for example? It would perhaps be
preferable to keep the existing html format and add the documents
directly to a 'script repository' with an easily 'updateable' index.

I don't always create scripts immediately, and therefore having that
resource available to me at any time is vital. That is why I created a
script library accessible via an http server on my PC. My partner,
friends & a few colleagues, are now able to access this from their own
PCs via my home LAN, Dial-Up, or the Internet and share the info that
is there. In fact, anything that is of interest ends up on my PC based
web site (I'm avoiding Intranet as it sounds a tadge pretentious.)

The script library is dynamic in that it is always growing. I am
continually adding and updating these 'webs' because I can access
nearly all of my information very quickly using this method. I use it
for everything that I am able, including document indexes, image
indexes, CD-Layout indexes, etc. If I added a web using a link
to say 'week 02 emails' which were in one long text file, it would rather
destroy the concept altogether. If I could export a group of say 200
emails from TB! all with file names and create an html index for that
set, for that week, then I could simply add those emails to a folder
on my Web. It is simply a matter of personal preference, flexibility
and removing existing user constraints.

If the resources you keep are varied and critical, the generation of
that information into a desired format is essential as you will want
'reasonable and acceptable access' to it.

Without any condescension: Have you ever skipped through a large book
volume searching for a phrase or paragraph that you felt you just KNEW
was in it somewhere? Maybe you have maybe you haven't, but I
definitely have. Some books don't have indexes so it involves a visual
scan through the pages searching for what you hope to be there
somewhere. Other books obviously do have indexes but common words can
have many references. Therefore, much time can be wasted on searching
context references for desired content. If you are fortunate enough to
be able to remember the reference clearly, the situation is quite
different and you can access the desired info quickly and efficiently.
With vast amounts of information being stored, I am unable to memorize
all the references that I would wish to remember. I therefore need
some method of organizing my information so that I can access it
quickly and efficiently retaining only the simplest mental references.

The upshot: I, and others, really want to be able to grab desired
content from a 'first hit' result, not from a tenth or fiftieth hit
result. After hours on the Internet, I might have a ton of resources
that I want to keep. I have spent the time necessary to find the
resources already, so now I need to be able to access those resources
locally, quickly, in a format that is best for me! My email and
newsgroup resources are no different.

All the best,

Slan,
