So,  I  did that: Moved the sub-filters out to become main filters and
they still didn't work. The weirdest thing!

I then looked more closely and found another filter higher up in the
list that moved these mail to account B's Inbox. And of course it
didn't continue with other filters so that they were never triggered.

I moved that offending filter down in the list (it has some other
conditions, but there is some overlap), moved the subfilters back to
become subfilters, and now all works as desired.
